On a dreary day, a new student walks through the parking lot and heads toward her new high school without any confidence. She is fifteen years old, and its been about four months since school has started, and she is very shy. She went to school in another state, but had to move because of something that happened in her past, something so horrible, that it made her less talkative and shyer. She is about five foot-four and she has partly curly and partly straight, nutmeg colored hair. She has a soft face and she has very azure color eyes. She is very slender and thin because she can control her appetite. Today she is wearing a sky blue long sleeve shirt with baby blue blue-jeans, and boots. She has a black down jacket on that is not zipped up. She believes that absolutely no one likes her or even knows that she exists.
As she heads out of the parking lot toward the office, she trips and starts to fall on the curb, but as she is falling, a guy with semi-long dark hair, and a blue long sleeve shirt, with black pants, catches her before she hits the ground, and she blushes because it was a guy that catches her; after she has her balance again, the guy jogs away without her noticing. She just blinks as if an angel just saved her life, but she is very surprised at the good deed the guy committed, that as she looks up to thank him for saving her from embarrassment and humiliation; she finds that he is nowhere to be found.
She walks around the enormous mass of the student body, and just attempts to find the guy, but still no luck, she just shrugs it off and thinks to herself: if he wanted a thank you he could have either stayed or he can find me later. She looks at the huge crowd once more and after a couple of minutes; gives up and walks toward the main office. After what seemed like forever and after asking very quietly to a couple of students where the office even is. As soon as she finds it she goes in it, the lady in their looks up from what she is doing and waits for the young girl to say something, but she doesn’t and only holds out the papers from her old school. The office lady looks through the papers and nods and types something on the computer. The lady comes to the transcript and continues typing.
After about five minutes; the bell rings, making the girl jump, and making the office lady just looks at her as if she is not used to bells, or noises. The lady keeps typing for a couple minutes more and then the lady prints out something and picks it up and gives the girl back papers that the office doesn’t need, and gives her her class schedule last, the lady looks up at the girl and announces:
“There you go you are now enrolled and here is your class schedule.”
The girl gives a shy smile, nods of understanding, and accepts the papers handed to her, and she leaves the office. After she is out of the office, the young girl looks down at the papers given back to her; with her class schedule on top, and then looks up at the classrooms in the hall and wonders: how long until I find my class? She just watches all the students running past her to go to their classes.
She just wanders, aimlessly down the hall looking from classroom to classroom to see if she finds the right room number that matches “B-10” and since she has absolutely no clue as to where her class is; she just continues to wander down the hall.
After a few minutes of wandering; the bell rings once more, and she jumps, frightened at the loud noise bouncing and ringing off the walls. She just shakes her head and continues walking down the hall; and after about ten minutes of searching she finally finds the classroom. She opens the door very nervously and enters the same. As she looks around the classroom; all eyes are on their own papers as if the other students are taking a test; only a couple of eyes glance up to see who invaded there peaceful classroom. She continues to look around the class of about 22 students or so, and all of a sudden she spots the boy who saved her earlier, and after seeing him she just continues to walk up to the teacher with a little more bravado than she had walking up to the school. As soon as she reaches the teacher she hands him her class schedule and he signs it and he adds her to the roll and he asks her to find a seat and she just nods as he hands her schedule back to her. She looks around and finds that the only seat available is next to the guy who helped her earlier. She smiles shyly and walks carefully to her new seat without stepping on the colorful backpacks that clutter the floor. She arrives at her not so new desk without tripping or stepping on a single backpack. She is very happy about herself by the act, but with no confidence about the upcoming rest of her classes. She wonders about what to do now and finally thinks of something, that she can do. So she gets out a piece of paper and writes a note saying: “Thank you for saving me earlier and I am very glad, but as I was about to thank you earlier you disappeared” it was signed: “from Iyika.” She cautiously puts the note on the boy’s desk; and as soon as she did he is startled and just looks at the note, and with great trepidation he opens it and looks it twice over, and continues to smile both times, he quietly and quickly gets out a new piece of paper and quickly writes: “Your welcome, I am sorry about earlier but I had to run something came up. Oh by the way my name is Cheppo.” As he hands her the note; the other students just start looking at the new girl and the silent guy with awe and amazement.
The teacher walks around the classroom and goes into a cupboard and pulls out a book and a card and walks over through the mess of backpacks, like a professional that’s been to boot camp; so she slips the note into her pocket as the teacher keels down to tell Iyika what to do and where to sign her name in the huge sophomore biology book, and so she just follows along silently without saying a single word.
After the teacher leaves with the card, he takes a second glance at Iyika and sees her just staring at her Biology book. As he is walking he carefully nudges the students backpacks underneath their desks and then looks at their desks to see where they are in the assignment; and he just thinks: another shy one, oh great, I’ll probably call her into my office tomorrow to check out her background a bit. He goes to the front of the classroom and sits down to finish grading the papers that were turned in today.
Iyika just continues to stare at the intimidating biology book with its thick pages of over one-thousand, and just wonders why she even has to take sophomore biology. Since she is new she doesn’t do any of the work in class that day, and hopes that the teacher understands; she only looks over the packet that needs to be signed by parent and/ or guardian. She then gets side tracked and just thinks about the boy sitting next to her, and just thinks about the way he smiled at the note and she is happy that she finally made a friend and a cute one indeed.
She wonders what other classes she has, so she pulls out her class schedule once more, and reads it silently to herself:

She begins to wonder about what her teachers are going to be like and if they will make her do a speech, so she starts to worry about it, but then a piece of paper is sliding across her desk it reads: Don’t worry about your first day, teachers here are very nice and don’t tell you to make huge speeches about your life story. May I see your schedule and I’ll tell you if I have any other classes with you? ~ Cheppo. She smiles once more and hands him her class schedule, he then smiles and shakes his head and makes a gesture to have the previous note back so he writes on the note: you wouldn’t believe this but I have all the same classes except next class, but I can ask if I can transfer into your next class. That is…if it’s alright with you. She smiles and just nods; she then just stares at Cheppo and just wonders if he is a stalker or what; she is getting a little worried. The time passes really fast and all of a sudden the bell rings and Iyika drops everything off her desk from being startled, so Cheppo helps Iyika pick up her bag that fell.
Cheppo guides her to the next class and introduces her to her next teacher while she remains silent and he found the perfect seat for her and he said he would be right back and 10 minutes later he came back with a piece of paper and the teacher looked at it and signed it and Cheppo quickly and quietly sat down besides Iyika and gave her a smile, it was the same in all of her classes. Iyika was getting very nervous and was starting to like him very much. The amusing part of the day was gym class, he does dress down, but today he didn’t just to hang out with Iyika. Cheppo tried to give her some comfort and tried to give her confidence to talk, but she was too shy to talk that day.
By the time study hall came around and they were in the library Cheppo showed her how to check in with the librarian and how to enter her name onto the computer to sign in for the day. They go toward the back of the library in a secluded place and he continues to talk to her about his age and life and tries to make her feel comfortable.
After ten minutes of being in the library she looks at Cheppo and smiles and says:
“Thank you for this wonderful day at school; it was the happiest day of my life. I don’t ever want this day to end.”
Cheppo just stares at her in her very blue eyes and starts to laugh and gives her a hug of joy with a little kiss on the cheek. He sees her face start to turn a deep crimson red and when she starts to look down, he puts his hand under her chin and then makes her face look up at his and he kisses the most beautiful lips a person has ever seen. Iyika just pulls away and since she cannot yell a word she just gets up and walks toward the tables in the library and she sits down at them. Cheppo comes over and sits right next to her and whispers into her ear: “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you but I was so happy that you talked to me! I was wondering where you live.”
“I…I…I don’t know where I live.”
Cheppo just looks at her in amazement as to how one does not know where they live; but Iyika secretly knows where she lived truly. As soon and the last bell rang she jumps and whispers to Cheppo,
“I will never get used to the loudness of those bells.”
“I can change that for you.”
“Really you can?”
“Yes I have connections to that sort of thing.”
“I will be grateful if you can turn it down for me. I have very sensitive hearing.”
Cheppo and Iyika leave the library after signing out and he carries her books as they walk out to the parking lot; she had to refuse the ride home because she said her parents were going to pick her up; which she knew was a lie. After he said to meet him early in front of class tomorrow he just gave her a hug goodbye and he heads over to his car and waves from about one-hundred feet away. He gets in and buckles up and drives away without taking a second glance at her.
Iyika waited until mostly everyone had left and she started to take a walk toward the park and she sat down on the swing and waited. She was waiting for her guardian’s mother to pick her up in two hours. She heard sirens in the distance and so out of instinct she looks toward the sound, a house was on fire; and it looked like from the distance of where the area of the house she lives in now is. She starts to panic; and picks up all her school stuff and jogs twelve blocks to get to the fire and she was correct on her guess, it was her house that was burned up and now she has no one to live with. She runs toward the scene but the police stop her and ask why she was running to the house; she cannot answer but tears are streaming down her face. She then looks away and still holding on to her stuff that she brought with her to school today, including money that she had on her she goes to the store and buys some more clothes and still had some left over to buy some food. She finds an empty alley way and a huge cardboard box and goes to sleep in it, for she has no house now. The next morning she is freezing cold and just gets up and looks at her watch and sees that school starts in one hour, so she hurries to get ready and gets on her new clothes and packs all her books and clothes in her bag and heads off to school. When she arrives she finds that the office has assigned her a school locker so she hurries to her locker and puts her clothes and books into it and holds on to the books that she needs for the next couple of classes and goes in search of her first period class, so that she is able to meet with Cheppo. He is waiting near the door when she arrives. She smiles and continues to walk over to him. Her hair is kind of dirty like she was sleeping in dirt all night, Cheppo asks about it but she says she had to run to school and boys were throwing dirt this morning and she got hit with a dirt ball.
She pulls out a brush and brushes her hair and gets all the dirt out of it and then puts the brush away and pulls her hood over her head like she is freezing. When he touches her face to wipe some of the dirt away he finds her ice cold. He quickly takes off his jacket and puts it on her and then makes her sit down. Iyika is now shivering, and coughing like she has a fever, so he decides to take her to the school nurse and so he helps her up and when he does a piece of paper falls out of her jacket pocket. Iyika doesn’t notice but Cheppo picks it up and looks at it, it’s her locker combination and locker number. He takes her to her locker and when she realizes where she is, she sticks her cold hand into her pocket and the piece of paper isn’t there, so she looks behind her on the ground but Cheppo holds the piece of paper out in front of her. She tries to hold the piece of paper and fumbles with the lock but she cannot do it now for she is really cold. So he takes the code from her and opens up her locker, what he discovers is her clothes and her books for school which were a little bit dirty. He finds another jacket and a hat and puts them on her and then re-locks her locker and then he takes her to the school nurse. The nurse then lays her down in bed with a heater blanket on her turned all the way up; Iyika is still coughing. The nurse pulls out her emergency card and calls home but the line is disconnected, so the nurse calls the work of the guardians, but the bosses say that they never came to work today and that they think that the parents are dead from a fire. The school nurse asks Cheppo to come and see her for a second and she asks if he knows if she went home yesterday, he just replied that yesterday, she told him that she had a ride home, and whether she went home last night or not, he did not know. The nurse then gave him Iyika’s address and asked him if he could swing by there for a quick minute since they had about twenty minutes before school started, he said sure, but make sure that she doesn’t get any worse while he is away.
Cheppo quickly ran through the halls and out to his car and started it up and drove near her house and finds that her house is burned up, he asks the police man if anyone survived the burning, but he replies,
“No adults survived, but we think they had a teenaged girl that did, we are not sure.”
Cheppo then thanks the policeman and drives back to school in time to tell the nurse that she has no parents or guardians and that she slept out on the street last night. The nurse just looks at the girl coughing on the bed and decides that she needs to skip school today to get better and she told Cheppo to tell her teachers that if they want to see the girl to come to the nurses office. Cheppo then agrees and he tells the nurse that if anything happens or if she talks to call him out of class regardless of anything that happens; the nurse promises that if anything happens whatsoever that she will call him out of any class. He then nods and heads off to his first period class but only after he turns down the bell ringing system. Later that day he gets a call from the office to go see the school nurse quickly, so he hurries down the hallway to the nurse and Iyika is seen on a stretcher being carried out to an ambulance and is asked to go with her. He agrees and follows her and he is asked some questions and then he is told that she has pneumonia and needs to stay in the hospital.
Twenty days later Iyika shows up at school and she is smiling and looking very cheerful, she is cured from her illness but she needs to take a lot of medicine to keep her healthy, plus all the check-ups that she needs to go to once every couple of days, and finally she moved in with Cheppo and his family and he just thinks: as long as she isn’t on the streets she is fine and dandy.
The End (this is the first version the next version will be coming)
As she heads out of the parking lot toward the office, she trips and starts to fall on the curb, but as she is falling, a guy with semi-long dark hair, and a blue long sleeve shirt, with black pants, catches her before she hits the ground, and she blushes because it was a guy that catches her; after she has her balance again, the guy jogs away without her noticing.
